All along the scenic waterways of southeast Alaska's Inside Passage, a thick forest of evergreen trees blankets the contours of steep coastal mountains right down to the sea. Here and there at the ocean's edge where people have settled, the forest blanket is pulled back to accommodate a village, a town, a city. Each is a stunning patchwork quilt of color bordered by mountain green and deep maritime blue. There are bears in the forest, fish in the sea, and gold in the folks who live and work together in this majestic wilderness.
