Fishing:
World-class fishing grounds are found here. Halibut are plentiful and five species of salmon migrate to their spawning rivers and streams at Hoonah's front door.
Just around the corner in Icy Strait, an Alaskan record sport-caught 440 pound halibut was caught. The current sport-caught champion coho (silver salmon) weighing
in at 26 pounds came from the same waters.
Freshwater fishing is superb. Rivers abound in season with cutthroat and rainbow trout, dolly varden char and steelhead, as well as the prolific Pacific salmon.
An Alaskan state fishing license is required for anyone over 16 years of age. It may be helpful to know the license fees:
| Alaska State Fishing License Fees |
| 1 - Day | $20.00 |
| 3 - Day | $35.00 |
| 7 - Day | $55.00 |
| 14 - Day | $80.00 |
| 1 - Year | $145.00 |

Sightseeing / Whale Watching / Photography:
If you are interested in photography, this is the place to do it! Hoonah's mountainous landscapes and stunning vistas stand ready to be captured.
Great wildlife subjects, to name the most famous ones, are humpback and killer ''orca" whales, seals, otters, sea lions, porpoises, bears, deer and eagles.
When possible, local charter operators will customize your charter and combine activities to suit your needs. This is Hoonah, where personal attention is part of the life style.
Stay awhile and you will see!
